I don't do aesthetic landscaping, but if you are local to Vashon-Maury Islands and would like to contribute to the health of island forests, please reach out. My rates are a sliding scale, starting at $75/hr plus expenses given herbicide licensing and insurance are expensive. Minimum 4 hours per trip. To fill the minimum, partner with a neighbor who also needs work done. Low-carbon transport is part of my service, so time on the road is billed at $35/hr. These rates finance recovery time from hard work necessary at my experienced age, and it pays for my public outreach efforts (seedrain.org). However, my mission is to control invasive seed sources as widely as possible on Vashon, so I'll conduct injection treatments on a sliding scale, $65/hr or $55/hr in my slow times, always plus expenses and sales tax. Injection shells cost 35 cents each, so a modest infestation on 5 acres might cost $175 in shells.
Injection treatments (T&M, road time, sales tax, shells) have ranged between $380 per acre to as low as $60 per acre for light infestations, averaging $200 per acre for typical infestations in forested acreages. Targeted high-priority invasive trees include: holly, hawthorn, laurel, bird cherry, European Mt. Ash, and fruiting ivy vines on trees. Treatments are approximately 80% effective for mature/fruiting trees the first year, with decaying trees left upright as "snags" that birds love. Follow-up "detail" restoration is more expensive, but I can coach you how to do this yourself. Steep slope revegetation is even more pricey, but I'm transitioning away from such work other than coaching landscaping companies wanting to transition to restoration. Bottom line is everything is time and materials plus tax, and you can set a NTE not-to-exceed budget and see how much I get done, and decide day-by-day whether I'm worth budgeting more.
If you can afford to help neighbors control their seed sources that reinfest your restoration efforts, I am selling yard signs (see below) for a "donation" as part of a cost-share outreach effort for neighbors who have severe infestations who can't do the work themselves. With 50% cost-share required, $100 is enough to significantly reduce "seed rain" on a typical forested acre. If you need a tax-deduction, donate to your local land trust and earmark it for "seed rain injection treatments." Vashon's forests thank you!
